List three people you care about—they can be living or dead, near or far.

Consider the first person on your list. Imagine for a moment the things you think have challenged them or caused them difficulty or pain. Don’t try to come up with solutions for them; just feel it for a moment. Perhaps someone had long stretches of loneliness in their life or is currently dealing with chronic illness. Let yourself dwell in this compassion for a few moments.
