The Safe Choice
You cannot go wrong with us.
We’re solid.
You won’t be shocked and you won’t be sorry. Bring your in-laws.
“We’re the CBS of ____.”
Though you cannot please everyone all of the time, the Safe Choice comes close: The Safe Choice is a company for all of us some of the time. Safe Choices are frequently old brands, like traditional banks and department stores; but even technology companies can fit this mold if they design themselves to be, or if they are so stereotyped. In years past, “Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM” was a mantra of IT directors who valued reliability above all, who wanted solid technology plus the assurance that their provider would always be around. (IBM has since, in our estimation, migrated from Safe Choice to Solution.) Today Microsoft occupies a similar position in the world of software—often chosen by companies because everyone else uses it, too.
