It is highly recommended to enable Network Level Authentication (NLA). With NLA enabled, users must authenticate themselves to the network before they can connect to a server. Allowing connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with NLA is a more secure authentication method that can help protect servers from malicious users and software.

By design, a Windows Server system allows a maximum of two (2) concurrent RDP administrative sessions. If there is a requirement for more than two concurrent RDP administrative sessions to a specific server, then the following options are available for remote desktop management:

1) Publish the server in question as part of an RDS infrastructure (RDS session host server). This shall allow any number of licensed users or workstations to access the RDS server by utilizing Microsoft RDS Client Access Licenses (CAL). CALs are generally available either per-user or per-device. A typical RDS-based infrastructure architecture is shown below. RDS can be deployed either entirely on-premise, entirely on-cloud or in any hybrid configuration. There are various roles in a highly available RDS infrastructure, including the RDS Session Hosts, RDS Connection Brokers, RDS License server and RDS Gateway and Web Access servers. The RDS Gateway server role acts as an RDP reverse proxy for securely publishing an RDS infrastructure to the Internet without the need of a VPN connection.
