Chapter 6
“It’s okay, he’s not hurting me,” I said as Cameron went stiff under me. “He’s holding back his emotions enough to where I don’t feel them. I can just tell from his posture that something’s wrong.”
“A few things actually,” Grady muttered and then thanked Toby for the can of pop he handed him. “I talked to someone from the High Council again. They want to make sure everything is in order before they come to arrest my dad tomorrow.”
“Alpha Ed being gone is good news though,” Toby said, and I could feel his confusion as he plopped down on Randall’s lap. “I mean, I know he’s your dad and all, so that sucks. But it’s what’s best for the pack.”
“It is, and while it’s hard, I’m dealing with it,” Grady replied with a nod and took a long drink. “When I was listing everything that my father had done wrong with the pack, they focused on a few things. One being the webcam site. They are pissed that we’ve been exposing ourselves that way. Not because of the sexual nature but because we could end up having some crazed stalker-fan try to track us down and figure out what we are.”
“Yeah, we’ve been talking about how to get rid of it,” Cameron said as he kept stroking my fur. “I know Randall and Toby had talked with you about setting up a store front. Quaid said he came up with an idea for a website for it. He thinks, and I agree, that people could place orders for goods and we could have certain pick up days in town. That way there could be extras made that customers off the street could come in a buy as well.”
“Great idea, Quaid,” Toby exclaimed with a wide smile. “Yes, it is, but we’re out of time,” Grady replied as he set his drink down. He leaned forward, bracing his forearms on his knees, and rubbed his hands over his face. “All the money my father has been hoarding is not in the pack bank account or his personal one. The Council said they can get their people on locating it, but it will take some time. Until then, the pack is broke. So, not only am I concerned on how we’re going to survive for the next few months, but we can’t afford to open a store front.”
“I can help,” Toby said quietly as he squirmed on Randall’s lap. “I have money, Grady.”
“I know you do, my friend, and I would expect nothing less than you to offer to help. But I’m afraid this time it will be more than you can help with. The taxes are due on the land, we owe the Council our pack dues, and we need help feeding the pack since we’re almost down to zero supplies besides what you brought. Spring is here, and we’ve no seeds for the crops we can grow, and depending on Cameron’s tests as to where the source of the parvo started, we don’t know what we need to fix.
