"Hell-o!" Mayor Parrish's voice trilled into the phone when our lines connected.

"Hey, Mayor. It's Angelica. I need your help with this case."

"My help?" Mayor Parrish scoffed on the other end of the line.

"Yes. I need a copy of Lorraine's will. Boyd said it was most likely filed at the courthouse. Can you meet me there and help me search for it?"

"Me? You don't need my help. Shelley Beaver works Saturdays. I'm sure she'll be able to give you a hand."

"You know what they say. Many hands make light work." I wasn't sure why I was giving Mayor Parrish such a hard time. Maybe it was because of the way she bossed everyone around lately without doing much of the work herself. It would be a nice change of pace for her to get her hands dirty, so to speak.

"But, I'm at my last dress fitting. You know for the gala on New Year's Eve?"

"The gala that we haven't even won yet?" I replied dryly.

"Yes, but we will. One has to be optimistic about these sorts of things."

"Even if we have an unsolved murder in our town?"

Mayor Parrish faltered, and I knew I had her.

"I'll be right there," she replied succinctly and clicked off the line.

I shot off another text to Vance on the off chance he was done with Daniel and wanted to meet up. I had been speaking the truth when I’d said many hands make light work. The more people we had working on this case, the faster we could solve it.

I was shocked when Mayor Parrish beat me to the courthouse. She stood on the steps bundled up in a brown fur coat with a matching hat fit for an ice princess. I zipped my fleece up and jogged up the steps.

"I hope you're right about this." Mayor Parrish took the gold keys out of her purse and unlocked the front door, making sure to lock it behind us. Mayor Parrish’s heels clicked on the marble floor as we walked down the hallway, stopping in the records office. Shelley was jamming to Christmas music and hadn't heard us arrive.

Spell-in' around the Christmas tree

At the witch's party hop

Mistletoe hung where you can see

Every wizard tries to stop

"AHHHHH!" Shelly screamed when Mayor Parrish tapped her on the shoulder. Shelly whirled around and smacked her hand to heart. "You gave me a heart attack.

"Yes, yes, very sorry about that." Mayor Parrish replied in a tone that indicated she was anything but. "We're looking for your help. Where do we file wills?"

Shelley was still trying to catch her breath. "Wills, did you say?"

"Yes, wills. You know, the thing that tells people what to do with your money after you die?" Mayor Parrish replied.

Shelley pushed her dark-rimmed glasses up on her nose. "Is the person living or deceased?"

"Deceased, as of yesterday," I added in case that made a difference.

Shelley's lips made an oh shape. "You're looking for Lorraine's will."

"Have you seen it?" Mayor Parrish asked, looking around at the stacks of papers and boxes Shelley had yet to file.
