Chapter Twelve

Brew

One Month Later

I wake up later than usual for a Saturday. Turning, I look for JJ, immediately noticing the lack of her body heat next to me. That’s when I hear some noise out in the front yard and JJ laughing. Hurrying, I rush to get dressed and go to the front door. Opening it in a rush, I step out, and as I do, she’s already making her way up to me. I notice she’s coming from the fence between my house and the neighbor’s. There is a woman there, looking about JJ’s age, maybe a tad younger. Her hair is dark—not as dark as JJ’s, but close. That’s when I also notice JJ is dressed in heels and one of her work outfits. Sure, it’s nearly 10:00 a.m., but that’s far too early for her to have gone anywhere.

Finally getting to her, I pull her up against me and whisper in her ear. “You weren’t in my bed this morning, and you want to tell me why you’re dressed in those heels that make me want to fuck you?”

She laughs, throwing her head back. Am I missing something?

“Sorry, we have new neighbors. That’s June, like the month.” She tilts her head in her direction, and I give the woman a chin lift.

“Nice to know. Now get that pretty little ass in the house and tell me where you were.” I smack her ass, and she laugh, walking into the house.

God, I’m enjoying her great mood. Grabbing some coffee mugs, she pours us some coffee, even though I’m the one to usually do so. I watch her flounce around, a big smile on her face. I could watch her all damn day.

“Baby? Start talking.” Peering over her shoulder, she rolls her eyes and follows my request.

“The Ericksons called. They loved their new place so much they called me and asked me to come this morning to look at their rental home up in the mountains. They want me to do some interior design work on it, and they told me about their friends who now also want me to do some work for them. So, I went, and when I left there, I called Mr. Jeffs… and I quit. I told him Hanna is perfect for the job and she will make a wonderful leader, and I quit!” As she hands me my coffee on the last word, my jaw all but hits the floor. Seriously, it’s ten in the fucking morning, and she’s done all this?

“You quit? So that means this is happening?” I ask her, my smile widening. I worried that she wouldn’t be able to leave her job or stay here, but with her finding clients and making the cut all without me having to involve myself, JJ must be serious about this.

“Yeah, handsome. It is.” Rounding the island of my kitchen, she lifts herself onto the counter in front of me and brings me to her with her legs around my hips, pulling me right against her.
