I do not understand what’s happening here, but the way I felt when Tessa said she hated people like me was the weirdest pain I’ve ever kind of felt. When have I ever given a shit about what people think about me? Maybe it’s because I’m so used to people kissing my ass - they’ve always been smart enough to hide how they really feel about me. Fear has stopped them from telling me how they feel.
Not with Tessa, though. She tells it exactly like it is. It’s sexy as hell. I’ve never wanted someone more than I do right now. But for the first time, maybe someone will say no to me. I’ve never had a girl reject me in my life, but I can’t read Tess, and the uncertainty of whether I’ll get to fuck her tonight or not is driving me crazy.
She follows me out of the bar and back into my car and holds onto my hand after I help her out of the seat in the bar. The heat between us is electric as we walk out. It’s only as she steps up in to the car that she carefully lets go of my hand to steady herself.
“Where are we going?” she asks as we start to drive away.
“I want to take you to my favourite place in the whole world.”
“Really? Where is it?”
“Just wait and see.”
We travel in silence for the rest of the journey, which is only ten minutes away or so. She stares out the window for the entire duration. I spend the whole time watching her, desperately wanting to know what’s going on in her head. I’ve never wondered that about a girl before. I always spent way more time thinking about what’s going on in my pants then what’s going on in a girl’s head.
Eventually we pull up outside my place. She looks a little panicky when the penny drops, and realizes where we are.
“Your favourite place in the world is your house?”
“Yes.”
“Is it by any chance your bedroom?”
I laugh loudly.
“No, it’s on the roof. I promise you that if you just let me show you something first, then my driver will take you straight home if you want to leave.”
Of course, I’m hoping that won’t be the case. She deliberates for a few moments before nodding hesitantly.
I take her through the marble entrance and we head straight to the elevator. We go up to the sixth floor until we’re on the roof. As soon as the door opens, she gasps loudly.
“Oh my god…” she whispers as her hands cover her mouth in shock. I’ve got the best garden in the city up here. I have the best landscape designer that keeps it up to date. There’s flowers of every color, water features, benches cut out of wood, and the sweetest smells filling the air.
“Johnny, it’s beautiful.”
“This is where I come when I need to get away from it all.”
We walk to the centre of the garden, where there’s a tiny, artificial grassy hill that looks over the whole city.
