mine for a brief second before I pulled away and it made me wish I'd hesitated for just a moment longer. It made me realize that that was what my mother was warning me against. She didn't want me to be pressed up against boys like that because it made me curious.

All throughout my junior high and high school days, I wasn't allowed to go to school dances because she was afraid of what might happen. I might touch a boy's hand or slow dance with him and all bets would be off. I'd wind up making out with him in a dark corner and next thing mama would know, I'd be fearfully and wonderfully in love. And pregnant. Her concern was always that I'd get pregnant.

I knew how babies were made, but I'd never quite understood the logistics. Every year since fifth grade someone came in and explained the birds and the bees to our class. They told us about birth control and condoms. If mother knew that I was sitting in on the lecture, she would have died, but it was the only thing I did to disobey her. I signed the parental slips and returned them without her ever seeing them. I knew so much about how to protect against having babies, I just didn't know what it was like to fall in love and do the act that led to them.

That's what made kissing Savior that much more special. He'd just hung up on my mother after telling her that he and his family were going to keep me safe. It seemed like the thing to do. You lean over and kiss the man of your dreams and fireworks go off. Everything is right in the world. Cue the happily ever after. And it almost worked.

Except the real world crashed down around us. Savior's phone rang and it was one of the guys. He kept his eyes on me the whole time as he spoke in a clipped, rapid manner. I just thought about that kiss and how twenty-four hours ago my life was completely different.

"You up for a party tonight?" Savior asks when he clicks off the line with the person he's been speaking to.

I raise an eyebrow because surely he's not talking to me. I've never been the partying type. The life of a girl raised by strict parents isn't filled with

parties. "What kind of party?"

"One of the guys, Buck, just got engaged. So there's a celebration at Brickhouse. It's a bar that's kinda, sorta run by the club."

Though I don't know what one wears to an engagement party or a bar, or a bar that's kinda, sorta run by a motorcycle club no less, I guess there's no reason not to go. After all, if Savior will be there, that means I'll be at his place by myself anyway. That doesn't sound like a good time. I could practice my piano playing, but where's the fun in that after an hour?

"Great," Savior places his hand on my thigh and gives it a tender squeeze.
