The next morning, Ben ran into her room, jumping on the bed. "Mommy! I missed you last night!"

Cheyenne sat up and rubbed her eyes, hoping to clear the blurred morning vision. She squinted until her son came into full focus. Desiree was awake too, babbling and peeking over the edge of her bassinet.

"Good morning to you, too." She yawned. What time was it? Looking at the clock on the nightstand, she read the blue illuminated numbers. Eight o'clock. Wow. She couldn't believe the kids let her sleep this late. Usually Ben or Desi woke up by six thirty, seven at the latest. "I missed you, too. Both of you. Are you ready for breakfast? It's going to be a great day. Jacob is coming over to decorate for Christmas."

Ben pumped a fist in the air. "Yes!"

"Easy, bud. Let's not jump all over the bed, please. We'll have breakfast, then go to the store and pick up a few baking things. We'll make Christmas cookies today."

"I love that idea, Mommy! Can we take some to the veterans and the homeless shelter?"

Cheyenne's heart melted. "Of course we can. I bet the veterans would love some cookies." She loved the thoughtfulness in him.

"Cool! Maybe Mr. Jacob will go with us." Ben bounced off the bed.

"I'll ask him. I bet he might." Cheyenne tossed the covers back and let her feet hit the floor. Time to officially start the day. "Morning, baby girl," she cooed at Desiree. "Okay, Ben. Mommy and Desi need to change. Do you want to pick out your clothes today?"

"Yes!" Ben practically flew out of the room, but he stopped at the door and closed it behind him.

"Thank you, Ben!" she called out.

Fifteen minutes later, Cheyenne stood in the kitchen, ready to prepare breakfast. For a cold day, oatmeal seemed like a good meal for the three of them.

As she put the water on the stove to boil, the phone rang. She picked up on the first ring. "Hello?"

"How is my lovely girlfriend doing on this fine morning?" Jacob's voice was a breath of fresh air. Was he calling to cancel on them? Should she have told Ben? He had his hopes up now.

Okay, seriously. She needed to get a grip. Why oh why did she have to second guess everything?

Cheyenne twirled the phone cord around her finger, happy to hear his voice. "Good morning to you. I'm feeling very good this morning, boyfriend," she said with a giggle. He brought out such behavior in her. She loved it. "And my dear babies let me sleep in a little today, too."

"I can't wait to see you in a few hours, even if I do have to behave. Seriously though, spending time with you three today is going to be fun. I'm going to find some of the Christmas stuff. I'm bringing plenty of things over. Does eleven sound good? I also want to visit my sister today." A wave of relief snaked through her. He still planned on coming by.

See? Nothing to worry about.
