Franny gave a copy of the list to each girl. “We have to put this stuff in our own personal backpacks like the I Ching said to do—just in case.”

“Just in case what?” Pru asked.

“Just in case Cha Cha tries to send Ivy to some dark, horrible place so that we can be ready to go with her,” Franny said impatiently. “Why else—geez, Pru!”

“Quit it, Franny,” Pru moaned. “I’m getting a stomachache.”

“Ivy,” Franny said, ignoring Pru. “You still have the ruby-red slipper that you took from Mr. Staccato’s case, right?”

“Of course I do,” Ivy replied.

“Step two,” Franny continued. “We get rid of Cha Cha—once and for all!”

“And what’s your great idea for doing that?” Cat wanted to know.

“Three words: spray paint, note, bucket.”

“That’s four words,” Pru pointed out.

“Whatever. Cha Cha wants a silver shoe?” Franny said slyly. “We’re going to give her one!”
