The Internet

It has become commonplace for individuals and nonprofit organizations to establish a presence on the Internet. Elaborate websites have appeared with regularity for not only large multinational organizations but also for smaller nonprofits and individuals. The vast majority of nonprofit organizations have established websites.

Technology allows even the smallest nonprofit organizations to create elaborate interactive sites that attract a good deal of positive attention. Theories abound on what makes a website appealing. For some, interactive graphics are the key; others feel it is important to provide browsers with something of value to take with them, such as information or the opportunity to obtain souvenirs of the visit. Some music publishers provide samples of the music they handle, while visual artists may encourage visitors to download images displayed on their sites. Some nonprofit organizations offer memberships and ask for donations online. With these new technologies, nonprofit organizations are faced with additional concerns and considerations for their daily operations.
