Chapter Thirty-Two

“So Paris could have put a glamour on me, hiding me from view when we walked through Beverly Hills,” Faraday said while hurrying down a busy street in West Hollywood.

Sophia shrugged. “It’s not easy pulling off a selective disguising spell that makes it so that I can see you and Lunis but others can’t. Disguises happen to be one of my specialties and putting them on Lunis has given me a lot of practice. Paris maybe couldn’t pull it off.”

“Or maybe she wanted to stuff you in a duffle bag,” Lunis offered, not only disguised so others on the road didn’t see him as a dragon but also under a compartment spell so that he didn’t take up the entire sidewalk.

“Well, maybe you can teach Paris how to do this selective disguising spell so that I don’t have to ride around in a duffle bag,” Faraday raced to keep up with the dragon and rider, who moved gracefully and in a nice rhythm with each other.

“So you can’t do any magic, even though you were once a magician?” Sophia asked curiously.

He shook his head. “No, not since becoming trapped as a squirrel. But I wasn’t ever good with magic—”

“Hence the whole getting stuck as a squirrel,” Lunis cut in.

Faraday sighed. “Well, it was a tricky set of spells and involving time travel complicated things. But truthfully, I’ve always been better at science than magic. Now magitech is being understood better, and that’s where I excel.”

“Then you’ll like my sister, Liv,” Sophia offered as they rounded a corner. “And you’ll like where I’m taking you.”

“To get a computer?” Faraday asked, intrigued.

Sophia nodded proudly. “It’s John’s electronic repair shop.”

“So it’s a refurbished laptop, then?” Faraday questioned.

Sophia shook her head. “Although the shop has been closed for fifteen years, Alicia, a magitech scientist who married my brother Clark although she was in love with John, has been keeping her projects going there.”

“Wow, things are so complicated in the Beaufont world,” Faraday remarked, having heard this history from Paris but still surprised by it.

“So true,” Lunis stated. “The Beaufonts are drama with a capital D.”

“We aren’t either,” Sophia argued. “It’s just that we’ve had to do certain things to protect our family and places in the House of Fourteen.”

“I think the Beaufonts go to greater lengths to protect each other than most,” Faraday observed.

“I think you’re right,” Sophia said tenderly. “Anyway, before, the electronic repair shop specialized in fixing toasters and microwaves. However, over time, John and Alicia started dabbling more in magitech with Liv assisting them when she wasn’t working on House business or doing something for Papa Creola. If anyone has a laptop that’s up to your specs with more bells and whistles than you anticipated, it will be Alicia.”

“I can’t wait,” Faraday said enthusiastically.

“So you gave up going back to being a real man to stay in this timeline with Paris?” Lunis questioned.

Faraday nodded. “It was a no-brainer. I mean, she’s Paris and my best friend. Being around you two is another reason for sticking around.
