So far we have heard the holy evangelist St. John describe how the eternal Word became flesh or man, how He dwelt among us so that we beheld His glory, a glory of the only-begotten Son of God, full of grace and truth. We have heard that He is free from sin and guile, without a trace of sham and deceit, but perfect in word and deed; that He is full of grace before all of mankind, that is, without sin, wrath, and ungraciousness; that He is full of truth, that is, that all His actions are not mere sham but true, sincere, and essentially good. This portrayal of the Son of God sets Him apart from all the children of men.5

In the second paragraph, Luther connected these truths to the lives of the people in the congregation. He did this by his use of the plural personal pronouns us and we. This established the link between scriptural text and the lives of his listeners:
