They walked in silence. Molly struggled to understand how someone she was always at odds with, could bring her body to life with such passion. The world, and the people around her, had fallen away with the sparks he had ignited within her. Shame flowed through her veins as she realised she would have given her all to him there and then, had he not pulled away when he did.

‘Mr Greenwood,’ a young woman’s voice called out behind them. ‘Hello, Mr Greenwood.’

Without looking round, Molly snatched her arm away from his.

Andrew narrowed his eyes, staring at Molly before he spun round. ‘Good afternoon, Miss Attwood, isn’t it?’

‘Yes, sir, I didn’t mean to disturb you, but I thought it would be rude of me to see you and not say hello.’ Flo gave a beguiling smile, before turning to Molly. ‘Hello, Molly, this is an unexpected pleasure.’

Colour flooded Molly’s cheeks. This was rapidly turning into her worst nightmare. She painted on her smile, before turning round. ‘Hello, Flo, what brings you to Hyde Park?’ Her eyes darted around, looking to see if she had anyone with her.

‘I’m just out walking.’ Flo paused, as her eyes darted from Molly to Andrew. ‘I like to get out at the weekend, you know, get a bit of fresh air after being cooped up in that factory all week.’

Panic swept over Molly. How long had she been there? Had she seen them kiss? Would she tell Grace or the others? What would it matter? Grace didn’t like her anyway. She cleared her throat, wishing she could remove her coat, as her temperature was suddenly soaring. ‘Yes, it’s a little damp, but a lovely day all the same.’

Andrew frowned at Flo. ‘You appear to have come a long way for your walk. Are you on your own?’

Flo gave an innocent smile that didn’t reach her eyes. ‘Yes, sir, some people seem to be finding a lot of pleasure in the day.’ Her eyes fixed on Molly.

Colour flooded Molly’s face, as she realised Flo had seen them together. Fear wrapped itself around her heart. She could feel the beads of perspiration forming on her forehead.

Flo nodded at them both. ‘It’s a bugger working Sundays, but I’ll see you there tomorrow.’ Before either of them could answer, she had turned and was walking away.

Molly’s eyes widened and her voice wavered, as reality hit her. ‘She saw us.’ She clenched her jaw, jumping when a dog barked, somewhere behind them. Her gaze followed Flo until she was out of sight, then it bounced around, but nothing registered. ‘What am I going to do?’ She took a deep breath, continually moving her weight from one foot to the other. ‘I need to calm down. Everything will be all right.’ She lifted her hand and rubbed her forehead, frowning as she did so. ‘That’s it, that’s what I need to do, calm down.’

Andrew pursed his lips together as he watched her. He stood tall and rigid, his neck muscles pushing out against his skin.
