‘Let me see it,’ said Coral. She took the strange rock from Pearl.

Suddenly the rock began to sparkle.

Pearl’s mermaid tail tingled. She had the feeling something amazing was about to happen.

Then a voice behind a giant sea-sponge said, ‘That’s not a shooting star. It’s a meteorite.’

Pearl grabbed the rock and stuffed it into her bag.

‘Who’s there?’ Coral demanded.

‘Eeep!’ squealed Shell, hiding behind Coral. ‘That sea-sponge is t-t-talking!’

Coral rolled her eyes. ‘It’s not the sea-sponge, silly. I know exactly who it is. Come out, Sandy.’

Sandy swam out from behind the sea-sponge.
