1: Trending Markets

Making money in a trending market is one of the most popular and time-tested ways of making money in the financial markets. It’s also remarkably simple.

To begin, a trending market is that which prices seem to move in a certain direction with only a few retracements in the move. This direction can either be up or down. A market that is trending upwards is said to be in an Uptrend. Conversely a Downtrend describes a market that is trending downwards.

Trading An Uptrend

The basic idea in trading an uptrend is to buy into the lows (also called the pullbacks or retracements). A market can never go straight up; even the strongest trends retrace at some point.

Your goal as a trader is to buy or go long at these retracements. Then, when the movement is back on track, you stand to make a profit. Do this consistently and you stand to make quite some nice profits.

Therefore, what you need to do is first draw trend lines. A valid trend line is that which connects more than two retracements on the chart. Well, you can rely on one that connects only two, but having at least three past retracements connected by your line is better.
