Placing the Grids

Grids are the feature that makes this work so well. They are a matrix or frame of dividers that virtually subdivide the garden into many squares each one foot thick. The grids help the farmer space out the crops well as well as allow for crop rotation and planning. To make some nice grids, use wood that is 0.5 by 1 inch thick. You can buy this in any workshop or lumber store. Once bought, subdivide the garden into equal parts on each edge. The individual segments must measure one foot each. In the end, all the four edges will have three marked out positions (assuming you have a 4 x 4 foot garden). Connect the first batch of opposite positions to each other crossing the garden. Repeat that for the second pair of edges. You will get the grid well placed into position. At this point, you can nail the wood pieces into place or choose to assemble it off the box and then attach it later. Either way, you will end up with a cute array of squares that will guide you as to where to plant what in the coming seasons, and probably for one decade.
