The southern register of the track is further embellished by DJ War’s sampling of southern folk instruments, specifically la tamorra (a type of large tambourine) and lo scacciapensieri (a type of Jew’s harp).

Subsequently, as in other songs, GgD compares Salento to Jamaica, thus drawing attention to the process of transcultural synthesis at hand and the capacity for both these territories to inspire cultural consciousness. Furthermore, as with previous examples discussed, this comparison ties these two “global Souths” together as being shaped by the oppressive and racist structures of colonialism, along with its diasporic consequences. Hence, the imperatives in the segment below call for awareness of, and attachment to, cultural roots, seeking to reverse the destructive territorial abandonment of economic emigration and inspire new forms of social, cultural, and political action. Also significant is the reappropriation of the pejorative label terrone as a marker of a resistant southern identity:    Nu te scerrare ci sinti,

Nu te scerrare te ddhru sinti,

… Terrone nu lassa’ la posizione,

Dane dane forza a na noa azione,

De lu meridione scansamu la distruzione.

    (Don’t forget who you are,

Don’t forget where you come from,

… Terrone don’t leave your place,

Give force to a new action,

Let’s avoid the destruction of the South.)
