Chapter Seventeen

“I need to see you.” Steve worked the buttons of Amanda’s dress with feverish desperation. Peeling the fabric over her shoulders, he swept his fingertips over the swell of her breasts, his touch soft. Lingering. Reverent. She closed her eyes and drank in the feeling of being adored and wanted beyond mere words.

She lifted her heavy lids as he slid the dress down her body, baring more of her to his ravenous gaze. He dragged in a ragged breath as the fabric pooled at her feet. “Mandy, you’re so beautiful.”

The soft cotton corset cover slipped over her head, and then, he peeled the corset from her body. She stood bared before him, her ivory pantaloons a scant barrier to the unbridled hunger in his eyes.

She’d never shown herself to a man. Not like this. Not when the lamp blazed golden light over her flesh and his ravenous gaze took in every inch of her.

Instinctively, she reached to extinguish the lamp. He stilled her hand. The wickedly sensuous curve on his lips set her heart into a frantic rhythm.

“I need to see you, Mandy. Don’t hide yourself from me.”

His words took her breath away. She’d surrender her heart and soul if he would have them.

Steve’s large hands slipped around her waist and guided the soft pantaloons over her hips and down the length of her legs. His low, indrawn breath fluttered her pulse. Trailing a scalding path along the column of her throat, his mouth stirred desperate waves of hunger. So sweet. Yet such agony, to need him so. As if her soul were incomplete without his possession.

Sweeping her into his arms, he carried her to the bed and gently placed her in the center. He ducked his head to kiss her. His caress was temptation come to life. How had she survived without his loving touch?

He whipped his shirt over his head, stepped out of his trousers, and stripped off his drawers. Stretching out on the bed, he reached for her, his warmth filling her with languorous pleasure.

“Do you want me, darlin’?” His tone was raw, and she knew in her heart he’d honor her wishes if she sent him away.

Digging her fingertips into his broad back, she clutched his body to hers. The thick, hard length of his arousal pulsed against the apex of her thighs. A sigh of deep-seated longing whispered past her lips. Driven by ancient instinct, she arched her back, nesting her softness against his demanding heat.

He gulped in a ragged breath. “Tell me you want me.”

Yes. Yes. Yes. The word was so inadequate. How could a single syllable convey the need in her heart?

“I want you. More than I’ve ever wanted anything.” She pressed her hands to his face and kissed him with all the emotion she’d held captive for so very long.

The kiss kindled the passionate flames to a roaring blaze. She wriggled with pleasure as his mouth trailed over the base of her throat to the valley between her breasts. His breath heating her skin, he explored the rounded peaks with exquisite care.
