Shade was up long before the electronic blinds opened. His death slumber had been restless, and his mind refused to release him into the slumber he needed. This only happened when something had him in turmoil, and the previous night’s revelation from his youngest daughter was definite turmoil. His talk with Kate had given him a dose of reality. He needed to better equip them with the skills they’d need to move about the mortal world. They were grown women, and he still viewed them as small girls.

Kate was still sleeping when he slid from the bed, and pulled on a pair of jeans, quietly leaving their bedroom. She’d know he was gone, she always did, but she never followed him. She knew he needed to work this out on his own. He’d worked out a plan in his head, now he needed to go to the one person who could help bring it to fruition, Luca. He rapped lightly on the door of the suite Luca shared with Shannon, and hoped he wasn’t interrupting them.

Luca heard the light tapping and lifted his head from the pillow. He and Shannon both patterned their sleep around Shade and Kate. Shannon still slept soundly, curled up next to him. He kissed her cheek, and gently slid his arm from under her. Slipping out of bed, he grabbed a pair of jeans and pulled them on, as he headed for the door. Opening the door, he saw Shade. Looking over his shoulder at Shannon still sleeping, he closed the door behind him, so as not to disturb her.

"Master? What's up?"

Shade led them into his office where they could speak in private. He closed the office door behind them, knowing it was a sign that no one was to disturb them, a rule even Sophia now obeyed.

"I’m sorry to interrupt your time with Shannon, but there are things that have come to my attention that disturb me. I have a plan, but I need your help. Sit down and relax. You want a drink?"

Luca ran both hands through his hair, wiping the sleep from his eyes as he tried to clear his head. "Uh....not right now. What's the plan?"

Shade sat in his huge leather chair, now worn in spots. "It has all happened so quickly, Lorenzo coming home with tats and piercings, Sophia fighting me on choosing an appropriate mate. But I think it truly hit me when Nattie told me she doesn’t want to mate, and to have bambinos. She has no interest in taking over any of the businesses. She wants to dedicate her life to learning. I realize I must let them go, live their own lives. The girls, especially, want their freedom in a world they know little about, and I have not taught them to protect themselves in that world. Kate pointed out there should be little difference in how I prepared Lorenzo for the mortal world, and how I prepare my daughters. They need to learn to hunt and feed.
