Francine pulled out her earbud and rubbed her ear. Something was beeping—something outside this ridiculous game. “Do you hear that?”

“The orcs are coming!” End yelled. “Get your sword!”

“No, idiot,” Francine said. She grabbed his comtab and paused the game.

“Hey!”

“Listen,” Francine commanded. “What’s that beeping?”

“Shit.” End scrambled over her and stumbled into the hall. “We got visitors!”

Francine unfolded her legs and climbed off the bunk. Pins and needles zinged through her nerves, but she shook them off. “What kind of visitors?”

“Federation shuttle,” End said, staring at the readings on the pilot’s screen.

“Here?!”

“No, it’s landing at the main airfield.” He swiped the screen. “I hope Tony saw it. I’ll send the info to his drop box, but there’s no telling when he’ll access it.”

“Shouldn’t you have that thing set to interrupt the game?” Francine asked. “I mean, what if they needed an immediate extraction and we missed it because the onks were attacking?”

“It’s orcs,” he said, disgusted. “But you’re right. I thought I had it connected—” He broke off, swiping through screens. “Here’s the setting. Shit. I turned it off. Good thing you got supersonic hearing.”

“Supersonic hearing?” she repeated. “Sure, that’s a thing. I need a break. I’m going for a walk.” She headed toward the airlock.

“Are you kidding?” End asked. “There are gale force winds out there.”

“Fine, I’ll be doing yoga in the cargo hold.” She grabbed a water pack and stomped away. This was going to be a long wait.
