Chapter 10

Helga saw desire burning behind his eyes. She could feel its evidence below his waist.

“Will you?” he asked again.

His breath was hot on her ear and neck. Shivers raced over her skin. She jumped when his hand slid under her silky top and touched the bare skin of her back, the heat of his hand making the decision for her. She bit her lip and nodded her head.

Ben didn’t waste any time. He grabbed her hand and pulled her from the dance floor and wove his way through the crowd back to her table.

“Get your stuff,” he commanded.

She didn’t need to be told twice. She downed the rest of her drink and gave Beth and her friends a quick hug. Ben hadn’t let go of her hand. He was drawing little swirls on her palm, heightening her awareness.

“That’s it?” he asked as they moved away from the table.

“My jacket is checked at the door and I didn’t bring a bag,” she replied breathlessly.

“Oh, ok. Do you have your ticket?” He held out his hand for the piece of paper she dug out of her pocket. She handed it to him and he gave it to the man at the coat check. While they waited for her coat, he pulled her up against him, her back to his front. His kissed her neck and rocked himself slowly against her. By the time the clerk appeared with her coat she was ready to take Ben right there on the floor.

He let her go and took the jean jacket from the clerk and helped her into it. Her skin was boiling from desire and she didn’t need it on, but she appreciated the gesture all the same. She smiled at him when he held the door open for her.

In the cool of the night, the lack of loud music was deafening. Her ears rang with relief. The music was still audible through the closed doors but it wasn’t at the eardrum-bleeding volume it was inside. Here she could think.

She took a step away from Ben. Maybe this wasn’t a good idea. She wasn’t good with men. It always ended in disaster. And the last time they saw each other they were at each other’s throats over nothing.

He touched her back to guide her to his truck and all thought of resistance disappeared. The electricity between them was too great to ignore.

He kept his hand on her thigh the entire drive to Beth’s house. His fingers drawing circles on her leg, getting ever closer to her center, where all her heat was waiting to explode. She reciprocated by running her hand up and down his firm thigh, his muscles bunched with each stroke of her fingers.

Finally they pulled up in front of the lighted porch. Ben cut the engine, turned towards her and pulled her into his arms. His kiss was electric. Shockwaves coursed through her body all the way to her toes curling in her shoes.

His thumb gently brushed her nipple and she gasped in delight.
