The next three days passed quickly. Jenna was proud of the progress she’d made with the bike and Walker had actually let her ride yesterday by herself. True to her word, she’d managed to become proficient without putting so much as a new speck of mud on the tires. Which meant that he owed her twenty-hours. Her heart beat faster at the thought of how she intended to collect on her bet.

From her position behind the desk, she glanced over at Walker, who sat in a big leather chair near the window reading the paper. It had become his custom to sit with her while she worked on the books. At first, she’d thought the silence would be awkward, but she’d quickly found that his presence actually helped her concentrate.

“Okay, I’m finished.”

Walker looked up from his paper, his eyes wide with surprise. “Already”?

Jenna laughed at his confounded expression. He was so amazing at everything he did, she found it adorable that he couldn’t balance the books. Numbers weren’t everybody’s cup of tea, but Jenna had a real knack for them. “Yes, already.” She shook her head, grinning as she stood. “If you weren’t so afraid of them, numbers could be your friend.”

Walker laid the paper aside and stood, his face reflecting his dislike of her words. “Hey, I’m not afraid of anything.”

Jenna laughed softly at his tone. “So, you’ll be ready to take over when my brother comes back tomorrow?”

It was Walker’s turn to grin. “I won’t have to. Jake knows how much I suck at this part of the business, so he’ll do them.” He took a step toward the desk. “Unless you want to come back?”

“No. Absolutely not.” Jenna grabbed her purse and rounded the desk. “As a matter of fact, I should be going.”

Walker was taken aback by her vehemence. “Hey, Jenna, what’s wrong? You can talk to me, you know.”

Jenna looked at Walker’s big hand wrapped around her upper arm. The strength and warmth of his calloused palm against her skin shifted something inside of her. He’d always had a profound effect on her senses and, lately, her libido shifted into overdrive every time he came near. She wanted nothing more than to step closer and plaster herself against him until she could feel every ridge and muscle of his washboard abs against her softness.

Fighting the instinctive urge took every ounce of her willpower. Stepping back, she shrugged, managing a look that she hoped conveyed her feelings as no big deal. “I don’t want to be under Jake’s thumb anymore. I’m tired of him directing every aspect of my life.”

Walker unobtrusively rubbed his hand down his shirt. His skin tingled from the contact with hers and, as usual, his mind was going places it had no business. He had no doubt that the rest of her was just as silky and smooth as her arm, and his fingers itched to explore every delicious inch.

“He’s just looking out for you. You’re his little sister.”

“I’m not a little girl anymore.
