The rest of our evening was fun, and we all agreed to do it again before the kids and I went back to Pittsburgh. I had to admit having people to talk to that weren’t Piper and Gavin was nice, no matter how much I loved my brother.

The next morning, I finally tracked down Gavin. We’d seen each other over the last few days, but only in passing and always with other people around. I wanted to corner him and get everything out in the open about the job Piper offered me.

“Hey,” he said when I walked into the dining room after breakfast. “Where have you been hiding?”

I sat down with him. “I was going to ask you the same thing.”

“Things are so busy right now,” he said with a sigh. “I had no idea getting married in less than two months was so difficult.”

“Well, I think any female could have told you that. If you’d bothered to ask.”

He laughed. “Probably true. But I wanted it to be a surprise for Piper, and I think it’s all coming together.”

“I think so, too.”

He smiled in that dreamy way he’d developed after falling for Piper. It was good to see him so happy. It had been a long time since Gavin seemed like himself. Relaxed and enjoying life instead of trying to outrun his past failures.

“I wanted to talk to you about the job Piper offered me.”

“Yeah, she mentioned she asked you about it the other day. Did you accept yet?”

“No, but that’s what I wanted to talk to you about.”

His brows tugged together, and he tilted his head to the side in question.

“Did you talk her in to offering it to me?”

His face relaxed, and he shook his head. “I promise you, it was her idea.”

“Really?”

He chuckled. “Yep, really. She couldn’t stop gushing about you helping with the booking software a few weeks ago, and she said you were exactly the kind of person she wanted to hire to help us with everything else. Someone she could trust and knew would not only do a great job but would be patient enough to walk us through everything if we didn’t understand it.”

“She said all that?”

“Yes, because you’re amazing, Zo. She knows it. Piper trusts you and loves you, and she knows you would do anything to help make this place successful. I’m sorry you thought I was manipulating you, or her, or the situation, but I promise you, this is all Zoey’s idea.”

I nibbled on my lip and considered the whole thing. It was a great opportunity, and I loved working with computers. I didn’t know what software and hardware was available right now, but it wouldn’t be difficult to come up with some options. Or to get it all done in the next few weeks.

“Do you think I should do it?” I asked my brother. Even though he was biased, he was still the person I trusted most in the world.
