One couple in particular noted the same phenomena. They arrived at the hotel late after a long day’s travel. Exhausted, they checked in well after the usual time and made their way to their room on one of the upper floors. They spent the night and arrived the next morning at the front desk asking about the identity of the man who had been so kind as to help the tired guests with the luggage as they made it to the top floor. He had been an older gentlemen, certainly well into his fifties. When the staff rotas (lists showing when each of a number of people has to do a particular job) were checked, there was not a single bellhop over the age of thirty working the night before. Similarly, when asked, none of the staff could remember seeing anyone help the couple with their bags. Perturbed, the man on the front desk tracked down one of the longer serving members of staff and passed along the description the couple had given about their late night helper. After listening to the description, they were astonished to discover that it was an exact fit for Sam McCauley. By this time, he had been dead for two years.
