Negatives help add higher intensity when working out and help to overload those muscles groups active during the exercise. You can include negatives by lowering the weight more slowly and slowing the temp to match. You should aim for a rep count of 3 to 5 seconds.

It becomes necessary to include these moves when you are no longer seeing any progress from your usual workouts. (Usually, that is when you feel sore enough to know you’ve had a productive workout.

There is a caveat here, though. These can strain your tendons and joints. If you are going to incorporate these often, be prepared for injuries due to overuse. Because you are essentially using more weight than you are able to life, you will need to have someone helping you lift the weigh and then let go when you are lowering it.
