A few minutes later Koji stepped into his bedroom and turned on the light. His eyes flared wide as colorful bits of clothing littered the thick carpet and the bed. He screamed in both rage and terror as he stood rooted to the spot. His stomach roiled and a wave of nausea washed over him.

“Oh, my God.” The words came out in a shaky breath and stumbled across the room to his dresser to yank his underwear drawer open.

His neatly folded clothes were gone and the spray-painted words, an ugly slur combined with the word “slut,” stained the pale wood. His hand shook on the drawer handle, and he yanked it away and turned to head out of his bedroom in search of his cordless phone to call the police. It was then that he noticed the bed had been turned back. An envelope and a small vintage box lay on the pillow. Icy chills came over him, chilling him to the bone with each step he took.

Koji picked up the envelope first, opened it carefully, and removed the neatly folded note.
