A few weeks had passed since Hope had last spoken to Gabriel, and she was starting to miss him. She was still wary of his issues with rage, but she couldn't help wanting to see him. Gabriel had been supposed to go to April’s funeral with Hope, but when the time came, he wasn't there. Hope knew she was the one that had pushed him away, but a part of her still wanted him to fight for her. From what Hope had heard from Tony, though, Gabriel was having a blast without her. He was partying and sleeping with a different woman every night.

Tony went to April's funeral with Hope, and although he was a perfect gentleman the whole time they were together, she had started to distrust him. Tony was too intrusive. Hope felt as if their time together was more of an investigation into her than genuine interest, and she grew tired of his prying.

Hope did enjoy Tony's company, but she began to be irritated by him, mostly because, when she thought about it, he was the reason she and Gabriel weren't together anymore. For the longest time, Hope wasn't sure about Tony's intentions, because it seemed as if he was after more than just trying to get his brother's girl.

A week after April's funeral, Hope finally felt that she was ready to go back to work. That morning, after having breakfast, she decided to call a few of her friends to see if there were any leads on April's murder. Hope was determined to find the story behind April's murder. She couldn't let her death be a mystery, and something that her loved ones would always wonder about.

“Hope! How are you doing?” her friend, Emma, asked over the phone.

“I’m doing well, Emma, just a little tired,” Hope said.

“That’s great, I’m glad you’re holding up,” Emma said.

"Yeah, I'm still despondent about April, but I needed to get back to work," Hope said.

“What about Tony?”

"He's fine, I guess," Hope said. "I haven't spoken to him in a while."

“Oh, you don’t know?” Emma asked in a soft voice.

“Don’t know what?”

“I’m so sorry, Hope,” Emma said, sounding as if she was about to cry.

“Emma, tell me what it is, please.”

"Tony was found dead, last night," Emma said. "We were called out to a suspicious death and were able to get on the scene when the paramedics came. We found out it was Tony, Tony Lark. I just figured someone from the team had told you already. I guess I should have. I'm so sorry."

“You’re kidding,” Hope said. “This isn’t happening.”

“He was strangled,” Emma said. “They think the murderer was male.”

Hope stood still for a while, staring at nothing. She couldn't bring herself to cry. All she could do was process what she had heard. She tried to think of her next move and realized what she had to do.

“Emma, thank you so much,” Hope said. “I know what I have to do now.”

"Take care of yourself, Hop—" Emma began to say, but Hope had cut the call off already.
