CHAPTER 17
WILSON
She's mine. I have to have her. I don't care if we are soaking wet and her hair is all over the place instead of the beautiful style she had piled on top of her head. I don't care if her eye make-up is all smudged. I just want her—Corinna. I kiss her again and I lose myself in that kiss. It so fucking good how she responds to me, giving her mouth to me. I don't want to ever let her go. I feel the softness of her against me, pressing up against the wet shirt plastered to my chest. I want her so bad right now but she's still shivering. She must be cold, so cold and my wet clothes against her can't be helping.
“Let's get out of these wet things,” I say, kissing her nose. “I'll find your robe. You can put that on for now.”
She nods but she seems stunned. It's as if she's not really here, deep in thought. I spot her robe on the chair by the bed and hand it to her and then I grab another dry towel for her from the pile in the bathroom and give her that too.
“Thanks.” She smiles but it doesn't quite reach her eyes and she doesn't look at me.
“Why don't you dry off a bit? I'll be right back.” I give her a hug and kiss her cheek.
I know I have to get out of my wet things too. I pull my clothes off in the bathroom and wrap another towel around my waist. I should have grabbed some dry clothes to put on. I know how it will look if I go out there in the towel but I can't help it now. I'll just have to go out and get some jeans or something from my bag. When I come out of the bathroom with another towel for her in case she needs it, she's still holding the robe and the first towel I gave her against her wet underwear and she hasn't moved.
“What's wrong?” I reach for her but she pulls away.
“No, Wilson, don't. You can't keep kissing me. I know what you want but we can't. I know it means nothing to you but it will never be the same between us at work. I'll end up having to leave. That job is everything to me, and I can't let that happen. I'm sorry.”
“Hey. You can never be nothing to me. How can you say that?” I wrap the extra towel I brought her around her shoulders but I don't dare do anything else.
“I've seen how you are with women. You sleep with them. You avoid their calls after that.”
“I'll never avoid your calls.”
“Wilson, I know you. I get the calls from other women all the time that you avoid, remember.”
“You're nothing like those women.”
“But I am just like them. That's because I would want it to mean something. Same as they probably do. The only way I'm different is that I'm not even going to put myself in that position.
