[Madea] appeals to people [who] are looking for . . . they don’t want to think too hard about their laughs and can identify with the one matriarch figure in their family who was protective or still is protective and full of wisdom and a “take no prisoners” type. Like I said, that is how my grandmother is but not as . . . but not like . . . right down to toting a gun. But she has also evolved as a woman, as a person. She might not appreciate everything, but she is definitely more open as a person than she probably was thirty or forty years ago, in baby steps.
