Chapter 13
Selina

Soft lips on the back of my neck pulled me gently from a beautiful dream. Owenâs scent washed through me, and I smiled, aware of the delicious aches in my body and the warmth invading my heart. âMorning,â I whispered, turning my head to look over my shoulder at him. The sparse covering of hair on his bare chest tickled my upper back. The arms that were banded around me pulled me back into his warmth.
I loved itâso much. I couldnât imagine being anywhere else, or even waking up alone ever again, and that in itself was frightening.
âI have to go, Kerores.â
Those were not the words I wanted to hear, and it was hard not to show my disappointment. But there were bigger issues for Owen to sort out than my selfish need to be held by the male I was falling for. I blinked. Gah, Falling for? Iâd loved Owen for years, and now weâd shared our bodies so intimately, Iâd only fallen further under his spell. After my past experiences with sex, Iâd never realised such soul shattering pleasure was possible. Iâd been in a daze last night after heâd reduced me to a boneless mess of post-coital bliss. But my chest had warmed with an even deeper emotion when heâd so gently washed me and explored my body until I was gasping his name again. Then, heâd softly dried us both. Heâd left me just long enough to fetch my nightie and his boxers, dressed us, and carried me back to bed. Exhausted, Iâd fallen asleep held tightly in the security of his arms. My heart constricted. I couldnât remember a time in my life when Iâd ever felt so safe, so cared for and at ease. Even my wolfâs contentment had reached me in my dreams.
Owenâs smile was soft and sexy. He brushed some hair from my cheek and grazed his lips against mine. âIâll be back as soon as I can.â
I nodded, willing myself not to grab him and beg him to stay. That wasnât me. I wasnât that needy woman, who demanded that her mate be by her side all the time. Except...who was I kidding? I may not need him, but I definitely wanted him by my side. But that was a pointless feeling. He had responsibilities just as I did. âOkay. Can you tell me whatâs going to happen; what youâre going to do?â I glanced at Devon, and ran my fingers through his hair. âShould I keep him with me, today? I donât want him in danger.â
Owen pulled his arm out from under me and stood up, reaching for his shirt and shrugging it on. Damn, my mate was hot. I rolled onto my back and happily ogled him as he got dressed. Which didnât take long considering he already had his boxers on. I couldnât help but pout a little when that beautiful body was gone from my view. Owen smirked even though he wasnât looking at me.
