Chapter Eighteen

Frank trailed behind waiting for Christian and Starr to catch up to him. When they eventually did, he slipped his hands through their arms and whispered to them.

I couldn’t hear what he said. Not having Supe hearing sucked, but I could guess based on our own personal circumstance. Frank and I didn’t get to have sex either, and neither did anyone else. Complete and utter exhaustion made it hard to even climb into bed, let alone spoon a little. And when each of us woke up, our stomachs reminded us we hadn’t eaten for a very long time, and we needed fuel or someone would get hurt. Dehydration played a part too. I downed several glasses of berry juice, and it revived me.

Frank chose the pitcher of blood for obvious reasons. So did Jovie. Both showed surprising restraint throughout the Games. Even before then really. Leave it to Hollywood to get it wrong. The thirst for blood didn’t drive vampires—at least not after the initial turn. If anything, love drove them. Love for their friends and romantic interests. Love conquered all, and if anyone judged me on that statement, they’d find themselves up close and personal with my pointy elbows and my Docs. I might be an Oracle, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t kick someone’s ass if provoked.

Speaking of romantic interests, I might not possess Supe vision either, but a person would be blind to miss the blossoming relationship between Coda and Jovie. They didn’t drool over each other like Starr and Christian. (Well, no one was quite like Starr and Christian.) But Jovie and Coda gravitated to each other, always finding an excuse to touch the other’s arm or shoulder or back. It was freaking adorable, and if there was one thing I learned from these horrid Games, it was to find beauty wherever you could. And together, they were beautiful.

Rebecca leaned over to me. “What?”

I looked over my shoulder at the blossoming couple. She followed my gaze and smiled.

“They’re cute, aren’t they?”

“Who’s cute?” Ben asked from the other side of Rebecca. See what I mean about Supe hearing?

Rebecca threw her chin back over her shoulder.

“What? Who?”

Ben might be a wolf shapeshifter, but he was thick when it came to love. Just ask Rebecca.

She rolled her eyes at me, then leaned over and whispered in his ear. His eyes shot to Coda and Jovie.

Hello Captain Obvious.

If they didn’t hear Rebecca, then they definitely saw Ben’s reaction.

“What?” They both asked at the same time.

“Nothing, ignore him,” Rebecca replied throwing some Word Magic into it.

“‘Kay,” they said returning to their conversation.

“That was a close one,” she whispered out of the corner of her mouth.

“Sorry,” Ben mouthed scrunching his shoulders.

“It’s alright. At least you’re pretty,” I teased him.

“Yes, he is,” Rebecca added sliding her hand into his. The two of them were also adorable in their couple-ness.

I didn’t want to be reliant on the other half of my couple, but I missed him.

“Where you been all my life sexy,” speak of the devil purred in my ear as he wrapped his hand around mine.
