It took a full week for Cieran to get back to normal. I settled in, hoping and waiting and questioning whether or not I was pregnant, but I couldn't take a test until after day ten. I counted it down, waiting eagerly to know how this would move forward while also terrified that this would push him away again.

However, while Cieran and I eased back toward normal, Finn seemed to swing in the opposite direction. Every day, he asked me how I was, which wasn’t out of the norm, but he seemed to be waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Then he dropped his own bomb. “When are you going to tell Cieran you plan on leaving after the kid is born?”

My stomach dropped. “How did you…” A cold certainty sank inside me. “Are you monitoring my personal computer?”

“Are you honestly surprised?” Finn retorted as he stared down at me.

“More shocked that we have someone on the payroll wasting their time getting past my VPN,” I retorted, leaning back in my chair.

“This is going to come back to haunt you.”

“I don’t think Cieran will care once I leave. It isn’t like I plan on turning on the organization,” I informed him, struggling not to feel guilty.

He sighed, shaking his head. “Moira…”

“I can’t do it, Finn. I can’t stick around. This will make Cieran’s life easier too. If I can’t get over him, then seeing him with our child is going to make it impossible,” I confessed, and he crossed his arms over his chest.

Finn’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Then why did you agree to the contract?”

“Cieran deserves to be happy.”

Brows furrowing, Finn obviously struggled, desiring to say something, but he only said, “Don’t get too ahead of yourself. Focus on your pregnancy.”

“I don’t even know if I’m pregnant,” I reminded him.

Finn offered only a small smile. “I’ve got a good feeling.”

At least one of us did.
