More men die of their medicines than their diseases.

ORIGINS OF ANTIBIOTICS

The manufacture of antibiotics began following the discovery of penicillin. Quite accidentally, a small petrie dish in a lab was contaminated with a small amount of penicillin mold. In the surrounding area, bacteria that had also been cultured in the petrie dish refused to grow. The reason? Both bacteria and mold produce toxins that kill off their competitors.

The same phenomena occurs in the body, on pets, in the ocean, and all over the earth to some degree. As long as an organism maintains a sufficient number of helpful bacteria to counterbalance the effects of potentially harmful bacteria it remains healthy.

Instead of allowing the original, natural concentration used by the penicillin mold to protect itself, new synthetic versions have been designed. Much stronger, and more potent, their whole chemical composition has been altered.

Synthetic penicillin was the first antibiotic on the market. Later, pharmaceutical companies began manufacturing more and more variations—all different chemical renditions of extremely potent antibiotics.
