The influx of Jonty’s belongings was less of an influx and more of a friendly invasion. Boxes, labelled with Jonty’s characteristic flourish (e.g., “Essential Tea Collection: Do Not Tamper With!” and “Nostalgic Knick-Knacks: Handle with Extreme Affection”), began to appear, each one a Pandora’s Box of memories and potential decorative faux pas.

The first real hurdle, as Jonty had predicted, was the art. Matthew had a penchant for abstract pieces with titles like “Fleeting Monologue of the Urban Dweller” or “The Melancholy of Dusk,” all rendered in tasteful, brooding hues. Jonty, conversely, had a wall dedicated to a rather impressive collection of vintage kitsch. There was a framed velvet painting of a majestic unicorn, a set of glow-in-the-dark alien coasters, and his personal favourite, a life-sized cardboard cutout of a rather stern-looking llama wearing a tiny sombrero.
