A pretty, Asian young woman opens the door. This must be the cousin.

“Hi. I’m Aiden Blair. Yanna’s boss,” I tell her straight.

Her eyes widen in comprehension, then narrow in suspicion. “Ah, the boss who fired her.” She crosses her arms in front of her in a defensive stance, sizing me up. “You have the guts to show your face here after making my cousin cry.”

Okay, these Asian girls are a feisty lot. But this is Yanna’s relative who’s obviously very close to her. I don’t want her to hate my guts from the get go. I flash her a smile that I hope will charm her socks off.

“I did fire her in the heat of the moment. I deeply regret what I did. I’m here to rehire her.”

“I thought you already did?”

“Uh, Bella, this is my boss, Aiden Blair. Aiden, Bella, my cousin,“ Yanna pipes in from behind her cousin.

“Yes, I know. He wants to rehire you. Again.” Bella gives Yanna a what’s-going-on look.

Yanna is glaring at me, not pleased to see me again.

“Officially rehire her,” I add.

“Oh, she must be a special employee, huh? The boss comes to personally rehire a fired employee. How cute. Is that a new company protocol?”

“Bella, behave,” Yanna chides her cousin.

Bella grins widely. “I was just kidding. Aiden, why don’t you come in and have pizza with us? We’re just waiting for the delivery guy.”

“Thanks. I just want to talk to Yanna for a bit. May I…?”

“Yes, we may.” Yanna comes out and drags me away from the door to the hallway until we are out of earshot.

“What are you doing back here?” she demands.

“Why weren’t you answering your phone?”

“You called? I didn’t hear it ring. It’s probably low bat. ”

I sigh and stare at her. I know I must be acting like an idiot.

“What?” she prods.

“Are you okay?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?”

“I didn’t hurt you too much, did I? I mean, I was rough and it was your first time…“

She blushes. “I’m fine. Really.”

I have this overwhelming urge to touch her again. I hadn’t touched her enough. Not nearly enough. “I’m flying to Singapore tomorrow.”

“I know. Your hotel’s been booked. Are your plane tickets okay? You didn’t ask me to book your flight. I was wondering about that.”

“I’m going to use the company jet. I’ll be meeting my brother Declan in Singapore, and we’d probably fly together to Thailand and the Philippines to check on our business dealings there.”

“I see. Well, good luck on your meeting with Mr. Han.”

“You don’t need to work tomorrow. Take the days off while I’m gone.”

She nods. “Yes, I think I need that. Thank you.”

“So…I’ll see you when I get back?”

“Yes, of course. Anything you want me to do while you’re away? More research on something?”

“No. Nothing. Just rest well.”

“Okay.”

Awkward silence. I’m floundering. It’s been a while since I felt something like this, when I felt the need to further connect with a woman after the sex. “All right. I’ll call you,” I just say, sounding lame.

She just nods.
