Reciting this dhÄraá¹Ä« twenty-one times, they must build a [miniature] caitya (stÅ«pa) from a clod of earth or sand. As many atoms as there are in this clod, so many tens of millions of caityas are created. Accumulating merit as numerous as the number of atoms, they become the masters of the ten levels and quickly awaken to the supreme awakening of enlightenment. This is what the illustrious Vairocana tathÄgata said. This concludes the explanation on the dhÄraá¹Ä« of great benefit.
All phenomena arise from causes,
Which were taught by the TathÄgata.
The cessation of those [causes], too,
The great Åramaá¹a has taught. (30)
Consecrating the caitya with this verse, they should venerate the caitya with the following dhÄraá¹Ä«:
Oá¹ NAMO BHAGAVATE RATNAKETURÄJÄYA
TATHÄGATÄYÄRHATE SAMYAKSAá¹BUDDHÄYA TADYATHÄ Oá¹
RATNE RATNE MAHÄRATNE RATNAVIJAYE SVÄHÄ.
Venerating a single caitya with this dhÄraá¹Ä«, ten million caityas are venerated.
This concludes the prescription of building a caitya of earth, stone, and the like.
By means of a special dedication of all that, the merit to be dedicated emerges as a special result. They should dedicate by means of the great dedication mentioned in the PrajñÄpÄramitÄ, which is as follows: The tathÄgatas, arhats, and perfectly enlightened ones know by means of buddha wisdom and see by means of buddha eyes the roots of merit, ascertaining their class, category, characteristics, and nature, and by which reality they exist. In precisely this way I rejoice in the roots of merit. Just as the tathÄgatas, arhats, and perfectly enlightened ones know, so I dedicate these roots of merit, which must be dedicated for the sake of unsurpassable perfect enlightenment. Again:
May I quickly become a buddha in the world
By means of these virtuous deeds.
May I then teach the Dharma for the sake of the world
And liberate sentient beings afflicted by so much suffering. (31)
This concludes the prescription of rejoicing in and dedicating merit.
Whoever it is and whatever work one does,
One must choose a pure livelihood.
In order to be patient and pacify illness,
One must consider it to be like medicine. (32)
As for food, which is found according to a pure livelihood, recite Oá¹ AKÄRO MUKHAá¹ SARVADHARMÄá¹ÄM ÄDYANUTPANNATVÄT Oá¹ ÄḤ HŪṠPHAṬ SVÄHÄ. With this mantra the torma must be offered. Oá¹ ÄḤ SARVABUDDHABODHISATTVEBHYO VAJRANAIVEDYE HŪá¹. With this mantra edibles must be offered. Oá¹ HÄRĪTI MAHÄYAKá¹¢Iá¹I HARA HARA SARVAPÄPÄN KṢĪṠSVÄHÄ. Having recited this mantra, two balls of rice for HÄrÄ«ti must be offered. Oá¹ AGRAPIá¹á¸ÄÅIBHYAḤ SVÄHÄâthe offering of selected balls.
Then, having empowered their own eating bowl through the syllables Oá¹ ÄḤ HŪá¹, they should touch it with their thumb and ring finger until the bad consequences of poison and so forth are alleviated and then eat. Having then eaten to their content, the remaining food should be offered as the leftover ball reciting Oá¹ UTSá¹á¹¢á¹¬APIá¹ÄÅANEBHYAḤ SVÄHÄ. What is still left should be abandoned without any interest in it. This is as stated in:
One must offer the torma, the edibles,
And the supreme ball for HÄrÄ«ti.
One must give the fifth part as leftover,
In order to enjoy the great fruition. (33)
Then, having sipped water [blessed
