On 31st August, the Wing was airborne at 6.41 am, to act as ‘high cover’ to a force of 36 Marauders who were to bomb targets at Lille and Veuderville. Led by Squadron Leader Gonay, the Wing escorted the bombers until they reached the target area. The bombers were then attacked by 10 to 12 FW190s. The Wing dived down and claimed the following:
