Commitment A state in which people are positive about the change and its benefits, are clear about what they have to do and how they will achieve the positive outcomes. Thus, once motivated, they are prepared to give the extra time and creative energy to making things work.

The subject leader’s role Once focused, the leader’s role is to establish the operational systems, find and deploy the resources and support necessary for the staff’s actions to be implemented. This may involve finding time to continue to support staff or opportunities for staff development, as well as more traditional physical resources.

Long-term commitment cannot be guaranteed or expected, unless the factors which motivate staff to engage in change are constantly reviewed and supported. The leader should consider each and every member of the team’s needs on a regular basis. The job of sustaining the momentum of change, while not as difficult as getting it going, nevertheless cannot be underestimated.
