Fifteen

When the teacher dismissed us, I quickly changed out of the clothes and grabbed my stuff. I wanted to get out of the gym before the volleyball coach showed up. I hadn’t had time to put my math and chemistry textbooks in my backpack before P.E and I was in too much of a hurry to put them away after P.E. I was running as fast as I could. I was holding two textbooks and I had my bag on my back. Right when I got through the gym doors, I ran into someone, dropping my books. I bent down to pick them up.

“Kallie, it’s been a while since I’ve seen you.”

I looked up. “Hi coach.”

“We miss you at volleyball.”

“I…uh…miss you too.”

“Have a good day.” She said and then walked past me into the gym. She looked upset with me.

I took a deep breath and kept walking. When I walked by the office Wendy was on the phone, so I just kept walking. I could always tell her my excuse the following day. The breeze from the cold weather made me shiver. I rushed to my car so I wouldn’t have to be in the cold for long. I then saw Felix walking to his car with Florence. Watching them, I knew they were different. I knew that deep inside. But trying to figure Masin and his family out messed me up. I needed to remove them from my mind. I plugged my iPod into the aux cord and blasted music. I let the music flow through my body, washing away the thought of Masin and his family. I told myself that when I got home, I would play music and just focus on homework. That was exactly what I did. I even finished my essay and read ahead in History. The whole night I refrained from thinking about Masin. It was a huge change. It was a great change. My mind and body felt better. But as I lied on my bed, there was a hole. Something was missing. I missed talking to Masin. I really did. It felt wrong not having him on my mind. I just told myself it was what was best for my health.

I went to bed early that night. I needed more sleep if I was going to get through the week. I also had nothing else to do. When I woke up that morning, I couldn’t even remember my dream from last night. I had slept like a baby. I had gotten a full twelve hours of sleep. That had been the most sleep I had gotten in months. I felt completely refreshed. The shower made me feel even better. The day zoomed by fast, so did the rest of the week. Again, Masin wasn’t there. I was able to focus and learn though, but I felt scared that he was going to move again or never come back to school, and I really liked him. Seeing him made me gushy inside. He was constantly on my mind.
