The 1955–1956 Foreign Student Census

The foreign student census released in 1956 was significant because it marked the last time a count of foreign students in the United States was conducted as a cooperative enterprise of the Committee on Friendly Relations Among Foreign Students and the Institute of International Education. The statistical nature of the census itself, combined with the growth of the foreign student population, resulted in the decision to centralize the census-taking process at the IIE.
