There is something I did right here that I could have easily gotten wrong. In that moment of meeting, I trusted my gut and changed our plans. Was it uncomfortable to tell him we weren’t going hiking? Yes.

Often times our gut tells us something is off and we think “I can’t tell him no” or “ I can’t change the plan” or even “He might think I’m judging him.” We don’t want to be displeasing—that’s our inherent female inclination. So one part of your instinct (your gut) is trying to keep you safe, while the other part is trying to be accommodating. It’s maddening. But you should be pre-judging him! Please, for your own safety, try not to override your own instincts. They are working to keep you safe.
